Simplicity...

I'm finding that simplicity in life is not so much about what is going on around me as it is about what's going on in me. Christin Hadley Snyder says that simplicity is not so much about what we own, but about what owns us. She continues...if we need possessions to maintain our self-esteem and create our self-image and to look good to our neighbors, then we have forgotten or neglected that which is real and inward. If our time, money, and energy are consumed in selecting, acquiring, maintaining, cleaning, moving, improving, replacing, dusting, storing, using, showing off, and talking about our possessions, then there is little time, money and energy left for our other pursuits such as the work we do to further the community and kingdom of God.

We must sit light to our possessions lest they possess us.... Truely gracious living is a by product of gracious thinking and doing. ...It is not the rejection of beauty in our surroundings, but the refusal to allow concern for things to clutter our minds.... (Edgar B. Castle)

Helpful to hear and be reminded. I always need that.

Blessings,

Mitch
