Zechariah 4:6 reminds us that it is only by His Spirit that we achieve the essential God given tasks that face us personally and the church corporately. Why? Because these God-given tasks are "superhuman", and any resources, methods or plans of men are at best only human.
J. Oswald Sanders states, "The church is a supernatural organism which can only be nurtured and sustained by spiritual means. The great danger faced by the church today is lest, in the midst of careful planning and seeking improved methods, she forget the superhuman factor without which her task will never be encompassed. Hudson Taylor emphasized this: ...There has been a measure of blessing [in our ministries] but where are the ones that chase a thousand and the twos that put ten thousand to flight? It is divine power that we need and not machinery or new methods. If those we reach weekly are not being won to Christ, where would be the gain in machinery that would enable us to reach double that number?"
Whatever planning, strategies, tools or systems we use, without the power of God in and on it, at best they are just good ideas. Whatever Moses learned at the burning bush incident, certainly he was shown that it's not so much the bush that is burning but the fact that God is in the bush! Any old bush will do [as long as God is in it]!
O that He might take us, just ordinary bushes and an ordinary church and cause us to glow supernaturally and accomplish the superhuman tasks He's destined us to achieve.
Spirit of the Living God...fall fresh on me....
Thankful,
Mitch
