A. W. Tozer is one of my favorite writers. Without any formal education, he became one of America's most well-known pastor / theologians. One of his classic books is "The Pursuit of God". These words from his book challenge me to continue seeking Him. These words are especially powerful to me, knowing that the Holy Spirit was his primary "educator...."
How tragic that we in this dark day have had our seeking done for us by our teachers. Everything is made to center upon the initial act of "accepting" Christ...and we are not expected thereafter to crave any further revelation of God to our souls.
In the midst of this great chill there are some, I rejoice to acknowledge, who...turn away with tears to hunt some lonely place and pray, "O God, show me thy glory." They want to taste, to touch with their hearts, to see with their inner eyes the wonder that is God.
I want deliberately to encourage this mighty longing after God. The lack of it has brought us to our present low estate. The stiff and wooden quality about our religious lives is the result or our lack of holy desire.
The psalmist cried out: "As the deer panteth for the waterbrooks, so my heart thirsts for God, the living God." May this become the overwhelming cry of our own souls...to strongly desire, thirst and hunger after the One who gives true spiritual drink and food; who truely satisfies and is genuinely, our greatest pleasure.
May you, in this season of "rush" relentlessly seek and find this quiet place of vital sustenance.
