The childhood visions and hopes that the Christmas season brings still lives in the hearts of us adults. The only difference is between what children and adults dream. Theirs about toys, video games, bicycles and maybe favorite food. Ours, though including some material things, is a longing for a Christmas vision, a hope toward the promise of this season. And,
we are not alone.
All of Israel longed and hoped for centuries for one who would come to establish a Messianic Kingdom.
All of heaven, its angelic host, rejoiced in the hope of earth's Savior. Mankind's bondage would at last be broken.
The Wise Men, scientists of their day, embarked upon a dangerous journey with high hopes of finding something extraordinary. We all, looking back through the ages, find ourselves being summoned by the Spirit to open our heart as a child...
To welcome the expectation of God's promise and power
To transform what needs to be
To forgive what failed to be
And to restore what cries out to be
The promise of Christmas then is still God's promise today: "Behold I bring you good news of great joy which shall be for all the people...for...there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." Contained in the person of Jesus is every gift we will ever need, to fulfill every longing, that will take our lifetime to unwrap and all eternity to unfold His glory.
So start now...dream big...envision all the potential, all the possibilities His Life postures us for...the Gift that keeps on giving and never disappoints.
