Habits Of The Heart

There are habits we can develop that heighten our spiritual senses. Habits that nurture a reflective life are:

Reading for the moment...using our eyes to see what's on the surface

Reflecting on the moment...engaging our mind to see what's beneath the surface

Responding to the moment...allowing what we have seen, a place to live and grow in our heart, upward to God and outward to other people.

The Bible is full of people who cultivated these habits. These habits are easily applied to studying the Word of God, reflecting on it, and using these reflections as a starting point for prayerfully responding. This is the "how to" for assimilating God's Word.

The benefits of reflecting on the scriptures is highlighted in the Psalms, especially Psalm 1...

How blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But His delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
And he will be like a tree firmly planted by the streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season,
And its leaf does not wither,
And whatsoever he does, he prospers. (vv. 1-3)

I commend the Word of God to you...and as the song says: "Word of God speak, let it fall down like rain...causing my eyes to see....

Thankful for you,
