Everyone loves to have choices, options on what they do and how they do it. We all know that the choices we make are very important. Choices shape and determine destinies. Consider these great quotes:
We are who we are because of the choices we have made.
We are fast becoming what we are going to be.
Our choice is indelibly marked for time and eternity. What we decide makes our destiny, not what we have felt, nor what we have been moved to do, or inspired to see, but what we decide to do in any given situation...this is what makes us or mars us.
Paul's prayer for the Philippian church (Phil. 1:9,10) is that their love would abound [grow] more and more, richer and richer in real knowledge and insight of every kind, SO THAT they would be able to discern, approve and have the gift of true descrimination [ability to see and choose or decide between) for the excellent things; to choose between the good and the best.
Nothing has greater potential for frustration, disappointment, waste and futility than zeal that's exerted in an undisciplined, haphazard, impulsive or uninformed manner. With that comes the sense of investment without satisfying return.
We all want the most from the best we have rendered. Paul prays that the driving force of their lives [agape] would grow and that with experience and maturity, their lives would be more carefully and proactively spent in the most excellent ways...to achieve the maximized potential and possibilities...for Him, for them personally and for others.
We've all heard it said that "the good is always the enemy of the best." Knowledge and insight from God, over time, will enable us to jettison good things for better and teach us by experience, what things are most worth while.
Time is short. We owe it to Him to do the best with what we've been given...and it's a matter of choice.
